Good Thing She Said, "Yes!" | Old Fort Point - Jasper Elopement

Would you trust your partner to plan a surprise wedding?

Many women start planning their perfect wedding when they are little girls and continue to dream up their special day until they meet their prince charming. Three weeks before these photos were taken, the bride had no idea she’d be getting married! I never did ask, but I often wonder if she ever had a vision of her own as to how her wedding would be, or if this was everything she could ask for.

A friend of mine from Edmonton contacted me to ask if I was available to photograph her friend’s last minute elopement in Jasper. Finding a last minute photographer in Jasper for an elopement in August is NOT an easy task. Luckily, I was second shooting for Ashley Kennedy that day so I happened to be free in the evening to join them in their celebration - and thanks to long summer nights in Jasper, we had plenty of time to capture some love!

Solene & Ghassan are from France and they had been travelling together for quite some time. During their travels Ghassan decided to plan a surprise elopement! He contacted an officiant in Jasper, invited some friends from Edmonton( and a friend from France!) to share the day with them, and finally proposed to his long time girlfriend Solene. Good thing she said, “Yes!” - could you imagine if she hadn’t. Not only was Solene surprised with the proposal, then Ghassan informed her that they would be getting married in 3 weeks! WHHHHAATTT??

The day of the elopement was much like the rest of the summer of 2018 in Jasper - smokey! I climbed up Old Fort Point and was greeted by 6 friends having a picnic and drinking champagne on a blanket, “Hey Jamie! Come grab a glass of champagne!”

From that point I knew this elopement was going to be a good one…

Here's their story

So I’ll ask again, would you trust your partner to plan a surprise wedding?
